Finding a Light in the Storm

While sometimes a bit scary, who doesn't love a good storm? Your home is that safe place away from the storm as you listen to it raging outside your window! You aren't always exactly sure when it will start - or when it will end. You don't know how much damage will be done during the storm or how long it will take to get everything back to normal. You just wait.

The storms of life are similar. While we may not be as comfortable during a life storm as we are safe in our houses during an actual weather storm - but we do have a safe place to turn for peace and safety. The Lord works in our life through the storms we go through. During those storms we wonder 'why?'. Sometimes it takes a long while to get things back to "normal" and from other storms, things will never be the same.

Often during a storm, old branches will come off trees and sometimes entire trees come down. After it's rained really hard things seem cleansed and refreshed. The storms of our life can often be the same way. God prunes away the parts of our life that are not fruitful and then helps us to grow new branches that may help us and often also helps others. Sometimes we can see things so clearly after a life storm! It cleanses us!

The point is, that even in the darkest of storms, we can find a light that will guide our path. God is the light that shows us which way to go - or if we should go at all. Sometimes he wants us to sit and wait the storm out, or to "be still and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10). Just as we trust that the fire department or police will come and help us if the storm is too strong - or that the electric company will come and fix the power outage - God wants us to trust Him through our personal storms. When we look to Him for peace and safety, we will be sure to find it.

"The Lord is my light and my salvation - whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life - of whom shall I be afraid?" Psalm 27:1
